HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation at UniActive Wollongong

REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN

If you’re planning on tackling the HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation this year, I’ve got some great news for you.

On Sunday, April 26, I’ll be at UniActive, Wollongong offering free short sports massages to athletes on the day. Whether you’re competing in your first HYROX simulation or you’re training for HYROX 2026, this is the perfect opportunity to give your body a little extra support before or after your event.

And the best part? You don’t need to be a UniActive member to participate. If you’re coming along for the HALFROX Illawarra event, you’re welcome to put your name down for a massage on the day

Why I’m Supporting the HYROX Wollongong Community

As a sports massage therapist, I work with a lot of athletes preparing for events like HYROX Wollongong, obstacle races, CrossFit competitions, and endurance events. What I see time and time again is that recovery and preparation can be the difference between a great performance and struggling through the event.

That’s why I’m excited to be part of the HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation at UniActive. Events like this bring the fitness community together and allow athletes to test themselves in a real HYROX-style race environment.

My goal on the day is simple:
Help you move better, feel better, and recover faster.

Why Sports Massage Matters for HYROX Athletes

HYROX-style events combine strength, endurance, and high-intensity functional movements. That means your muscles are under a lot of load through things like:

  • Running intervals

  • Sled pushes and pulls

  • Wall balls

  • Lunges

  • Farmer carries

A short targeted sports massage can help with:

1. Improving Mobility

Tight muscles restrict movement. Quick massage work can help loosen the hips, calves, quads, and shoulders so you can move more efficiently.

2. Activating Key Muscles

Massage isn’t just for relaxation. Done properly, it can wake up muscles before competition, improving circulation and helping you feel ready to go.

3. Reducing Muscle Fatigue

Post-event massage helps flush out metabolic waste and improve recovery, which is especially useful if you’re training for HYROX 2026 and have more sessions ahead.

4. Injury Prevention

When muscles are tight and overloaded, the risk of strains increases. Massage helps keep tissues supple, mobile, and functioning properly.

My Tips for the Day (From a Massage Therapist)

If you're competing in the HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation, here are a few tips I always give athletes:

Arrive Early

Getting there early allows time to warm up properly, check in, and even grab a pre-event massage slot.

Warm Up Your Hips and Ankles

HYROX events involve a lot of running and lunging. Spend time opening up your hip flexors, glutes, calves, and ankles.

Don’t Skip the Cool Down

After your event, walk for a few minutes instead of stopping suddenly. It helps your body gradually bring your heart rate down.

Hydrate

Hydration plays a big role in muscle performance and recovery. Drink consistently throughout the morning.

Listen to Your Body

Push yourself, but be smart. Events like this are about testing yourself while staying healthy enough to train again tomorrow.

Come Say Hello at UniActive Wollongong

I love supporting local fitness events, and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone taking part in the HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation.

So if you're heading to UniActive Wollongong on Sunday April 26, make sure you:

  • Come over and say hello

  • Put your name down early for a free sports massage

  • Give your body the recovery it deserves

Whether you're preparing for HYROX Wollongong, building towards HYROX 2026, or just challenging yourself in your first HYROX simulation, I’d love to help you perform at your best.

See you there.

Get Your Name Down Early for a Free Massage

Because the massages are completely free on the day, I suspect like last year they will fill up quickly.

If you’re coming to HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation at UniActive Wollongong, my biggest tip is simple: get in early and put your name down as soon as you arrive.

I’ll be offering short, targeted sports massages designed specifically for HYROX athletes. These sessions are perfect for either:

  • Pre-event preparation – helping loosen tight muscles and improve mobility before your race

  • Post-event recovery – helping your body start the recovery process after the workout

Because each massage is hands-on and focused, I can only treat a limited number of athletes throughout the morning. Once the list is full, unfortunately I won’t be able to add more people.

1. Arrive early
2. Find the massage table
3. Put your name down for your free spot

It’s a great way to give your body some extra support on the day and get the most out of your HYROX simulation experience at UniActive.

I’m really looking forward to helping as many athletes as possible move better, perform better, and recover faster.

While I’ll be offering free short massages during the HALFROX Illawarra HYROX Simulation at UniActive Wollongong, these treatments are designed to be quick and targeted so I can help as many athletes as possible on the day.

If you’re preparing for HYROX Wollongong, working toward HYROX 2026, or simply want to get the most out of the HYROX simulation, a full treatment before or after the event can make a big difference to how your body performs and recovers.

During a full session at the clinic, I’m able to take the time to:

  • Assess how your body is moving and loading under stress

  • Work deeper into tight or overworked muscles

  • Improve mobility through hips, glutes, calves, and shoulders

  • Help reduce the risk of strains and overuse injuries

Many athletes find that a massage a few days before an event helps them feel looser, move more freely, and start the race feeling ready. Then a recovery treatment afterwards can help reduce muscle soreness, improve circulation, and support the body as it repairs after a demanding workout.
